Over half a million acres in 20 countries – The World Land Trust
4th July 2014 by Kingfisher Press
Wow – what a fantastic evening we had with the World Land Trust and their guests.
The evening began with a reception hosted in a beautiful private garden in Suffolk. The guests, including World Land Trust committee members, corporate sponsors, supporters and staff had the privilege of walking in the rose garden.
The rose garden, nestled in huge 80 foot high hedges, is just amazing, the aroma from all those beautifully tended flowers is like gliding through a fresh and subtle bottle of floral perfume, you have to witness it. I was fascinated by the tulip trees – I’ve never seen one before – they are, as their name describes, trees with tulip like flowers growing on the branches – they really are a delight and I’m so going to have one in my garden!! (Although I’m told they take 20 years to flower!)
The evening was a mixture of stories and videos from Jerry Bertrand, Honorary President of the World Land Trust who was over from the USA and Bill Oddie’s A – Z of his travels to WLT sites including Armenia, Brazil and Zambia. Check out Bills video here.
The presentations began with a video diary taken by our hosts of the wildlife right here on their doorstep including a variety of rustic and beautiful deer and a hare diving in to the moat (not sure why but it seemed to enjoy itself)!
The catering was delicious supplied by Lola de Mille and I have to mention the ice-cream made by Alder Carr at Needham Market – it was simply scrumptious!!!!
The World Land Trust celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and now has projects in over 20 countries and has helped purchase and protect over half a million acres of land. The emphasis is on buying the land and protecting it as nature reserve in the ownership of local conservation partners in those countries – the land belongs to and is managed by the people who live in and around it and along with the wildlife will they directly benefit from protection and restoration.
Kingfisher Press Ltd have been delighted to have worked with the World Land Trust for a number of years and it is a privilege to be associated and support such a worthy cause.
