Printing for the Planet: Kingfisher Press Supporting WLT on World Habitat Day

October 6 marks World Habitat Day, a time to reflect on our shared responsibility to protect the natural world and the habitats on which all species depend.

We are always very proud at Kingfisher Press of our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship through our long-standing partnership with World Land Trust (WLT).

Why It Matters

Our business is built on paper, ink, energy, and systems — all of which carry environmental costs. Recognising this, we became a Carbon Balanced Printer in 2012, and have been working with WLT for over 16 years.

Being a Carbon Balanced Printer means more than just offsetting emissions. It means measuring the carbon impact associated with the full printing process — from sourcing the paper to energy use, transport, and finishing — and then investing in credible carbon offset projects to compensate.

Our partnership with WLT enables us to channel those offsets into preserving endangered tropical forests, supporting ecosystem resilience, and helping communities protect critical habitats.

We also maintain FSC® certification and comply with ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management, reinforcing that sustainability is baked into our operations, not just an add-on.

WLT: A Worthy Partner

World Land Trust is an international conservation organisation that works globally to buy and protect threatened land, ensuring habitat is preserved for vulnerable species and ecosystems.

Since 1989, WLT and its partners have safeguarded over 1 million hectares directly, and supported an additional 1.3 million hectares through co-funded projects.

By aligning with WLT, we ensure that our offset payments are going to proven, impactful conservation work — not just abstract carbon credits.

Why We Share This on World Habitat Day

World Habitat Day is a reminder that land is more than a commodity — it’s the foundation of life. Forests, wetlands, grasslands, and other ecosystems are home to countless species and provide vital services such as carbon storage, water regulation, and soil health.

By choosing to print more responsibly, we aim to reduce the impact on these systems — and support their protection through WLT. On this day, we encourage our clients, partners, and the broader print industry to reflect: What footprint are we leaving, and how can we contribute to habitat regeneration, not degradation?

What You Can Do

  • Ask your suppliers or service providers: Are they carbon balanced or taking active climate action?
  • Where you can, opt for print jobs that carry environmental credentials (FSC, carbon balanced, low VOC inks, etc.).
  • Support habitat conservation efforts — you can donate to or partner with organisations like WLT.
  • Spread awareness — on social media, in your meetings, in your sector — that sustainability in print is not optional, it’s essential.

We believe that quality print and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive — they must go hand in hand.
