The Kingfisher team have once again successfully ridden the Suffolk Coastal ride, in 2014, in aid of Action for Children.
All of the members completed the ride and it was a great day with lovely weather and beautiful scenery, although a head wind made it a little more testing to reach the finish line!
The wide format Kingfisher XL presses have been installed and are busy printing for banners and boards, exhibition displays, boxes, table cloths, windows and doors!
We have installed a fabulous new stitching line and in-house laminator. These new pieces of kit allow us to manage both time efficiency and quality controls in house and mean less time spent delivering and collecting projects for out-house finishing.
The laminator (check out our video) installed in July this year, offers silk, soft touch, matt and gloss lamination.
Investment in a new Stahl folder built to our specification (read about it on our blog) again increases our efficiency with regards to finishing. The new machine gives us a wide range of folding options, previously not available in house.
Team Kingfisher have raised over £820, and still counting, in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice based in Ipswich. The team joined the Suffolk Coast Bike Ride along with hundreds of other riders and cycled around the beautiful Suffolk country side.
Paul Tomlin comments "It was a great day, well organised and the weather was fabulous. It’s a lovely part of Suffolk to cycle around and the support was brilliant. The last few miles were harder with a head wind but we all made it back safe and well! Hundreds of people cycled and turned out to support the event and I hope raised much needed funds for the hospice." - the more we raise the more worthwhile the sores and aches will be! Please don't forget to tick the giftaid if you are able to (individual rather than corporate donation).
We have recently worked with Ben Searle from Cycling Guides.com to produce a cycling guide for the Forest of Dean. The cycling guide, which has been recently featured in the Guardian Britains Best Bike Rides, has been produced using polyart.
Ben, MD at Cycling Guides comments “Right from the start I wanted a tough waterproof base for a series of guides. I took a while to find a suitable substrate. I googled widely and contacted a number of printers who use Polyart or alternatives. From first contact Kingfisher were extremely helpful, encouraging and always amazingly prompt at getting back which is very refreshing! Early tests proved that Polyart could be machine folded as required. Kingfisher have worked hard to get the very best from Polyart and I am very pleased with the results – which captures the Ordnance Survey map detail perfectly. I owe it Kingfisher that I now have my first guide published and I am sure it will now prove its worth, whatever the weather, as cyclists explore the Forest of Dean! The icing on the cake is Kingfisher’s first rate environmental policy – something many cyclists will appreciate”
Polyart is a highly durable, tear, water and grease resistant material making it ideal for outdoor use. The maps we have produced for cyclingguides.com are folded to a handy size so that the rider can negotiate the acres of woodland confident that whatever trail they follow the map will provide the route rain or shine!
As an established printer of polyart we produce a wide variety of projects, including pharmaceutical and veterinary field handbooks, luggage tags, maps, cup cake or cookie cases, tickets and posters. Polyart is a synthetic material and can be die-cut, folded or laminated, the same as other more traditional stocks.
The Team Kingfisher cycling gangs will be cycling 60 miles in aid of St Elizabeth hospice on 4th August 2013. Paul Tomlin, Paul Midforth, Jon Doidge, John King and Chris Mead will be taking the longer 60 mile route on the ride, there is an optional 35 mile circuit but they have gone for the mans one!
Team Kingfisher will be joining other riders on the start line at around 8.30am. The route takes us around the fabulous Suffolk coastal countryside from Glemham Hall, Little Glemham through Peasenhall, Brampton, Southwold Pier, Dunwich and East Bridge.

We are delighted to introduce our new Xerox Docucolor 8080 Digital press. Kingfisher Press has an investment strategy for 2013/ 14 that will see the introduction of various new in house equipment and the new digital press is the first to be installed.
Deciding on which press to invest in can be a lengthy and complicated process with many choices but we know we have made the right decision for our clients and our business.
The new docucolor 8080 gives improved quality and efficiency in short run colour print. It offers both consistency and superior calibration for colour ensuring every print. The press can print 80 pages per minute making it fast, accurate and very cost effective. It can manage the most difficult of direct mail campaigns integrating personalisation with accuracy and precision while ensuring consistency and repeatability in colour.

A Carbon Balanced Publication Printer is one of the highest statements of environmental integrity and credibility for both the end user and those who provide paper based communications. It confirms that the carbon impacts of the whole production of a printed item has been estimated and balanced (offset). The accreditation recognises excellence in environmental performance across the entire spectrum of a company’s operations and services.
This prestigious accreditation demonstrates commitment to the environment by assessing and calculating the corporate carbon footprint. The resultant carbon emissions are carbon balanced (offset) by ecological charity, the World Land Trust, by preserving endangered tropical forests that would otherwise be removed.
"Previously we could only offer a range of carbon balanced papers but this Certification means that we have mapped our operational footprint to defined boundaries and that has been verified. It shows our commitment to the environment as a business and helps to support our clients in their own green and CSR policies. Many of our clients are familiar with FSC and recycled stocks but this gives us another opportunity to stand out from competitors and demonstrate care and commitment to the environment in which we live and work. We already work closely with the World Land Trust and are delighted that we can support their invaluable work." - Paul Tomlin, Kingfisher Press Ltd MD.
Carbon Balanced Publication Printer is just one of Kingfisher's green credentials, we are already FSC/PEFC accredited and currently working towards the ISO14001 Environmental Management System accreditation.

Paul Tomlin MD at Kingfisher comments 'It has taken us a year to go through the process of accreditation with management and IT policy updates and through the process of inspection and approval. World Land Trust has been awarded a Gold Medal for its "Saving the Atlantic Rainforest" exhibit in the Continuous Learning section at the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The exhibit was also awarded "Best in Section".
Kingfisher would like to congratulate the World Land Trust on their award at the Chelsea Flower show and were very pleased to lend their support by sponsoring the print of their 'Saving the Atlantic Rain Forest' Booklet for the show. You can download a copy to read more about their worthwhile projects or visit their website www.worldlandtrust.org
Viv Burton, Head of Communications of the World Land Trust, comments "The World Land Trust has used Kingfisher exclusively for several years and they have supplied print for a variety of different projects during this time. As a charity it is important that we use environmentally responsible printers and we have been very impressed by both the production and service provided by Kingfisher Press. We are also very grateful for their support of our Chelsea publications."
Kingfisher Press Ltd has joined the British Printing Industries Federation. Being a member gives us various benefits both as a business and a printer. BPIF offers help and support from industry specifics such as HR, training and legal support along with various industry related information including environmental issues and updates, sector surveys, facts and figures regarding the print industry plus a library of reference for legal, technical, marketing and training issues.
Kingfisher Press Ltd has invested heavily in modern equipment and systems to streamline pre-press and printing procedures. This article details our investment in new equipment and how it supports and enhances our commitment in providing a high quality, efficient and cost effective service to clients.
Kingfisher Press recently undertook their biggest ever single order (worth in excess of £100,000) for a division of Bayer. The publication was printed entirely on Polyart supplied by Robert Horne Paper which, as a synthetic material, has a reputation for being difficult to print. With previous experience in dealing with this tricky material, Kingfisher had no hesitation in taking on the job.
Jon Doidge MD who printed the job, said "Our knowledge of this product allowed us to be confident in taking on this massive project. As with any job, it's knowing what works best."
Polyart is popular with pharmaceutical companies as it allows representatives out in the field to have a library of information at their finger tips without the need for internet access and the durability of the material means it does not suffer the fate of most printed books with damp and dirty conditions.
Kingfisher have successfully printed and distributed a very prestigious job which had to be collated and dispatched to Formula 1 venues around the world.
Richard Stiff, Production Manager, comments "Our courier and despatch system is now so fine tuned we can send anything anywhere in the world. We can also track the parcels from our warehouse in Bury St Edmunds to the end delivery point giving us and our clients peace of mind in knowing their job will be delivered to the correct address and on time"
Kingfisher is expert in handling difficult and demanding projects which can involve printing and collating personalised packs of print to be dispatched to the relevant addresses. 'We sometimes have to collate multiple personalised items and send off up to 300 individual parcels at any one time" comments Paul, MD at Kingfisher. "These projects take co-ordination and organisation and often have very tight deadlines but we always get it right and are confident in our ability to manage and complete these demanding jobs"
We are delighted to have our very own digital press. The Xerox Docuprint 5000AP gives us the ability to print variable data and short run colour jobs in a very cost effective manner.
Variable data is brilliant - you can have your special 'Golf Day invitation' personalised for each member or print impressive looking property particulars for a selection of properties without having to pay high prices for small quantities.
Digital print offers an excellent economical option for those jobs which are either small or have short shelf life or that are subject to changes through statutory or legal updates. We love digital printing, its quick, easy and very cost effective!!
